Spartan Women Perform Well in Final CAC Tune-Up

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The York College women's cross country team finished 16th at a loaded Rowan University Inter-Regional Border Battle at Dream Park in Logan Township, New Jersey on Saturday. The women's championship race featured 27 full teams and 224 runners in the biggest individual race the Spartans have participated in during the 2019 regular season.

The Spartans finished with a total of 397 points as they were 20 points behind Lynchburg who finished 15th. Johns Hopkins won the team title with 26 points while Dickinson (76), SUNY Geneseo (116), Carnegie Mellon (175), and NYU (186) rounded out the top five.  

The meet was York's final in-season tune up prior to the Capital Athletic Conference Championships on Saturday, November 2 in York.


Top Spartan Finishers

• Junior Emma Rogers was York's top finisher as she placed 71st with a time of 23:16.92. Rogers notched an average mile of 6:18.0.

• Sophomore Taylor Barkdoll was the next Spartan to finish the race as she placed 78th. Barkdoll clocked in with a time of 23:32.53. Barkdoll's average mile time was 6:18.7.

• Junior Nicole Wasserleben was the third Spartan to cross the line as she placed 83rd with a time of 23:39.07.

• Sophomore Amber Strouse was York's next finisher as she placed 93rd with a time of 23:53.59. Sophomore Jordan Haberstroh was the Spartans' fifth finisher as she placed 98th with a time of 23:58.69.

• Senior Rachel Banchiere was the sixth finisher for the Green and White as she traversed the 6K course in a time of 24:02.67. Sarah Nicoletti was the seventh Spartan to cross the finish line, posting a time of 24:25.17. Nicoletti started out slow but moved up 28 spots in the middle of the race to finish 125th.


He Said It

"It was a good day for the women as a team," said head coach Stephen LoBianco. "We had a closer 1-5 split than we did two weeks ago but we need to continue to improve our pack running for the championship season. Emma tied her PR in the race while Nicole, Amber, and Danielle Andrews all finished with new personal bests."



The Spartans also had athletes run in the Open race as York finished fifth of 12 teams … Bre Kaiser led the way in the open race with a PR of 26:01.2 … Sarah Skane was the next Spartan to cross the line in a time of 26:53.0 … sophomore Erin Brown set a new PR with her time of 27:43.8 … the Spartans had several newcomers run their first 6K of the season in the Open race.

The Spartans will attempt to win their fourth consecutive Capital Athletic Conference championship on Saturday, November 2 at York College. The race will be held at Reservoir Hill across from the York College main campus. The meet is slated for a 10:00 am start.
