YORK, PA – The York College women's cross country team opened their 2019 season on Friday evening in the Inaugural EW Relay Classic on the campus of York College.

The event was a new and fun night honoring the memory of Ethan Williamson, a former Spartan cross country and track and field athlete, who passed away last spring. Runners were paired up in groups of two as they took turns running legs of the race.

The Spartan duo of Taylor Barkdoll and Nicole Wasserleben captured top honors as they traversed the course in a time of 22:44 to take home the titles. The alumni duo of Alanya DeBruin and Jess DelViscio finished second with a time of 23:00.

The tandem of Elle Meyer and Emma Rogers placed third at 24:21 while Rachel Banchiere an Danielle Andrews finished fourth. Sarah Skane and Abigail Sykes rounded out the top five with a 25:35.

"It was a great night of the team coming together to remember Ethan by doing something he loved, running," said head coach Stephen LoBianco. "Now, we will look ahead to build off tonight's success as we continue our season."

The Spartans return to action next Friday night as they travel to Shippensburg University to participate in the Piper XC Invitational hosted by Shippensburg University. The event kicks off at 8:00 pm.
