UMW Eagles Fly Past Spartans in CAC Play on Saturday

YORK, PA – The York College Spartan volleyball squad dropped a tough Capital Athletic Conference decision to the University of Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon in York. The Eagles earned a 3-0 win over the Spartans but all three games were tightly played as UMW earned the win.

How It Happened:

• The Eagles jumped out to a quick set one start. They raced out to an 8-4 lead before the Spartans tied the set at nine. Mary Washington scored 12 of the next 18 points as they pushed out to a 21-15 lead. York cut their deficit to 23-20 but the Eagles closed out the set with a 25-20 win.

• The second set was back and forth from the beginning. The set was tied seven times before the final time came at 22-22. The Eagles then scored the final three points of the set to capture the 25-22 win, taking the 2-0 lead.

• The third set was also close as there were nine ties before the Spartans pushed out to a 24-21 lead. The Eagles ended the set and the match with a 6-1 spurt as they took the decisive third set 27-25.



The Spartans had their season-high tying four match win streak snapped … York has won eight of last ten matches … the Eagles have won four straight in the series as UMW holds a 29-22 all-time lead in the series …  York hit just .146 in the loss, their lowest performance since their 3-0 loss at Christopher Newport on September 22 … York's 27 kills tied their season low, set in the loss at CNU.


Up Next:

York returns to action on Wednesday evening when they close out a three-match home stand with a non-conference contest against Dickinson College. The match is slated for a 7:00 pm start.
