Harbold Sets Digs Record but Spartans Drop Heartbreaker in Frostburg

FROSTBURG, VA – The York College volleyball squad suffered their second straight loss as the Frostburg State Bobcats edged the Spartans 3-2 in a key Capital Athletic Conference contest in the Bobcat Sports Arena in Frostburg, Maryland on Saturday. Junior Alexis Harbold set a new school record in the loss with 52 digs.

It's just the second time this year that the Spartans have lost back-to-back matches.

The Spartans are now 3-8 against Frostburg State since the Bobcats have joined the CAC … junior libero Alexis Harbold set a new school record with her 52 digs in the match … those 52 digs bests the previous school record of 43 set by Ashley Rineman on September 21, 2012 against Rochester … Harbold leads the CAC in total digs (453) while she is second in digs per set at 5.33 … York has played the last two matches without the services of sophomore middle hitter Madyson Whitcomb and her absence has been noticeable as she leads the Spartans in blocks per set (1.05) while she is ranked second in the conference in the category … Whitcomb is also ranked second in the CAC in attack percentage (.312) … one day after having their lowest kill total of the year, the Spartans recorded 61 kills, their second highest total of the year … the five set loss is York's first of the year as they had been 3-0 in five setters in 2017 … York recorded 230 attack attempts which is a season-high and is also the third highest single match total in school history … York's 129 digs sets a new school record, besting the previous single game high of 121 set against PSU Altoona on October 4, 2014 … the two teams both had chances in the fifth set to win the match as Frostburg had four set points before winning it while York had one set point.
