Spartans Outlast Elizabethtown in Five; Extend Win Streak to Seven

ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – The York College volleyball squad outlasted Elizabethtown College in a non-conference thriller on Tuesday night in Elizabethtown as the Spatans downed the Blue Jays 3-2. The Spartans had a 2-0 lead before the Blue Jays bounced back to win sets three and four. The Spartans edged Elizabethtown 18-16 in game five.

The Spartans won both regular season matches against the Blue Jays this season …  York has now won a season-high seven straight … York had to go to five sets for just the third time this year as the Spartans are now 3-0 in five set matches … York hit over .200 for the third straight match and for the sixth time in the last seven matches … York had eight service aces for the fourth straight match … York recorded a season-high 83 … York notched 14 block assists, the 12th time this year the Spartans have reached double figures in the category … junior libero Alexis Harbold registered a career-high 34 assists in the win … Harbold leads the CAC in total digs with 387 while she is third in the league in digs per set (5.03) … Harbold now has 836 career digs in two years for the Spartans … junior Brooke Krebs had a career-high six service aces in the win … sophomore Madyson Whitcomb recorded another seven blocks (two solos and five assists) as she now has 194 career blocks … that total leaves Whitcomb just out of the all-time top ten after just under two full seasons … Whitcomb ranks second in the CAC in blocks per set at 1.05 blocks per set … sophomore Gabby Emeigh leads the CAC in service aces per set at 0.76 … York's win streak is the longest since last season's 11 game run.


Up Next:

The Spartans head back out on the road this weekend for a pair of Capital Athletic Conference matches on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the Spartans head to Buena Vista, Virginia to face Southern Virginia University at 7:00 pm. York then heads to Frostburg State University to face the Bobcats at 2:00 pm on Saturday. Southern Virginia is the hottest team in the conference as they are 14-4 overall and 3-0 in the league. The Knights have won a league best ten straight. Frostburg State is currently 13-8 overall and 1-2 in the CAC.
