Two Records Fall as Green and White Compete at George Mason

FAIRFAX, Va. – The York College women's track & field squad competed at the at the Patriot Games hosted by George Mason University on Saturday. The indoor meet saw the Spartans break two school records as they got to take a look at the host site for the inaugural Capital Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on February 19.

Deborah Fidele put together a terrific effort in the 400 meters as she broke one of the two program records. The Spartan rookie ran to a 1:02.71 as she lowered by the previous Spartan best (1:05.27 on February 20, 2011) by two-and-a-half seconds. Aside from her tremendous work in the 400, Fidele also competed in the 200 to record a 21st-place 28.71.

York's second ruptured mark came in the 4x800 meter relay. Anna Spaniol, who was part of the new distance medley relay record set last Saturday, joined with Misty Parshall, Mandy Parshall, and Megan Phillips to record a 10:29.37. Their combined effort bested the prior mark of 10:29.85 set back in January of 2011.

Rookie Hannah Ritzman had a solid performance for the Green and White as she competed in the 60, 200, and 4x400 relay. The top Spartan finisher in the 60 and the 200, Ritzman notched 8.56 to finish 18th overall in the 60 while taking 20th in the 200 with a 28.64.

Laura Rowlands posted a fourth-place 1.55-meter leap in the high jump while also taking 14th in the long jump. In that long jump event, Rowlands only leapt one time and notched a 4.69-meter result.

In the throws, Ashley Menniti had a strong showing for York. In both the shot put and weight throw, the newcomer was the top Green and White finisher taking 14th in the weight throw (10.84 meters) and 15th in the shot (9.33 meters). Katie Shinn finished 16th in the weight throw (10.38 meters) while Meaghan Jackson took 17th in the shot put (9.22 meters).

Back on the track, Jessica Miller had a quality 3,000-meter race as she posted an 11:32.74 to finish 14th. Caroline DeLany snagged eighth in the 1,000 with a 3:20.85.

Phillips, Mandy Parshall, and Rachel Berninger each nabbed top-20 marks in the 800. Phillips notched the best time of the group with a 2:33.73 while Parshall finished two spots back at 2:35.68 while Berninger finished two more places back with a 2:36.68.

The Spartans return to action on Friday, February 3, when they travel to Susquehanna University. Start time for the meet is slated for 4:00 pm.
