LYNCHBURG, VA – The York College women's tennis team picked up a 6-3 road win on Friday afternoon at Randolph College in Lynchburg, Virginia. The match is the first of a weekend trip to southern Virginia. The Spartans improve to 6-1 overall while the Wildcats fall to 0-1.
The Wildcats opened the match with a first doubles win but York responded with wins at second and third doubles. York's Hannah Shinsky and Chloe Doyle combined to beat Sarah Muller and Lauren Appel 8-3 in the second doubles match. Maisie Supp and Lauren Ostermann earned an 8-3 third doubles win over Bailey Livingston and Heather Whetzel.
The Wildcats opened singles play with wins at first and second singles to take a short-lived 3-2 lead in the match. York responded with a Supp win at third singles to tie the match. Supp defeated Appel 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 in an exciting third singles match. Shinsky recorded a 6-4, 6-1 fourth singles win for the Green and White. Ostermann kept the Spartans rolling with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Whetzel. Doyle closed out the win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the sixth singles match.
The Spartans close out their fall schedule with a Capital Athletic Conference match against Southern Virginia on Saturday. The action is slated for an 11:30 am start in Buena Vista.
