YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis team continued their strong fall play as they downed Elizabethtown 6-3 in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon in York.
The Spartans remain perfect in the fall with a 4-0 record while the Blue Jays fall to 3-2.
The Green and White got off to a good start as they won two of the three doubles matches. Michaela Sentz and Gina Liguori combined to post an 8-4 first doubles win over Lenea Riehl and Sarah Donner. The Blue Jays captured the second doubles point as Kailey Caroland and Maddy Binder outlasted Hannah Shinsky and Chloe Doyle 8-6 in an exciting match. Maisie Supp and Lauren Ostermann cruised to an 8-1 third doubles win over Courtnee Hoff and Ava Framm as York took the 2-1 lead to singles play.
Sentz opened the singles matches with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Riehl in the first singles match. After the Blue Jays earned a second singles win, Supp recorded a 6-1, 6-3 third singles win over Donner to put York up 4-2. Elizabethtown notched a fourth singles win but the Spartans got wins from Ostermann and Doyle at fifth and sixth singles to close out the match. Ostermann downed Framm 6-1, 4-6, and 10-5. Doyle rolled past Hoff 6-1, 6-1 in the sixth singles match.
Doyle remained perfect in singles play as she is now 4-0. Sentz and Ostermann both improved to 3-1 with their wins. Ostermann and Supp are now 3-0 in doubles play for the Green and White.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, October 5 when they travel to Towson, Maryland to face the Goucher Gophers in a non-conference action. The match is slated for a 12:00 pm start.
