YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis team pulled out a 5-4 win over Gettysburg Colleger on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in York. The Spartans improve to 3-0 while the Bullets fall to 1-2 for the fall campaign.
York opened the match with a pair of doubles wins as Maisie Supp and Lauren Ostermann earned an 8-3 third doubles win. Hannah Shinsky and Chloe Doyle had to work a little harder to earn their second doubles win as they outlasted Alexis Rinker and Ava Vanhelfteren 8-6. The first doubles match was decided by a tie breaker as Samantha Bordman and Alex Rieg held off the Spartan tandem of Gina Liguori and Michaela Sentz 8-7 (7-5).
Boardman tied the team score at 2-2 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Sentz in the number one singles match. Liguori gave the lead back to the Green and White with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Vanhelfteren in the second singles mach. Rieg retied the score as she outlasted Supp 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) in the third singles match.
Doyle would give the Spartans a lead they would not lose as she was next to come in with a 6-0, 6-1 sixth singles win. Ostermann would seal the deal with a 6-2, 6-2 fifth singles win over Maddie Urbano. The Bullets captured the fourth singles match to provide for the final score.
Doyle improves to 3-0 in singles play for the Green and White. Liguori, Ostermann, Sentz, and Shinskey are now all 2-1 for the Green and White. Supp and Ostermann are now 2-0 in doubles play for the Spartans.
York returns to action on Sunday morning as they host Elizabethtown College in a non-conference match up. The match is slated for a 10:00 am start.
