GRANTHAM, PA – The York College women's tennis team had an impressive performance on Saturday afternoon as they blanked Messiah 9-0 in a non-conference match in Grantham.
The Spartans improve to 2-0 while Messiah falls to 0-1.
The Spartans opened the day with a sweep of the three doubles matches. Michaela Sentz and Gina Liguori teamed up to down Rachel Mancroft and Kaylie Ryder 8-3 in the first doubles match. Hannah Shinsky and Chloe Doyle combined to roll past Sarah Fleming and Angela Tozzi 8-2 in the second doubles contest. Lauren Ostermann and Brianna Rohrer then notched an 8-0 shutout of Heather Schmidt and Rosie Spurlin in the third doubles match.
Sentz opened singles play with a quick 6-1, 6-1 first singles win over Mancroft. Liguori followed suite with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ryder in the second singles match. Shinsky was impressive with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Tozzi in the third singles match up. Ostermann kept the Spartans rolling with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Schmidt in the fourth singles flight. Doyle surrendered just two games in her 6-0, 6-2 fifth singles win over Spurlin. Freshman Morrissey Walsh made her Spartan debut a successful one with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Fleming in the sixth singles contest.
The Spartans are back at it next weekend with a pair of home matches as they will host Gettysburg on Saturday at 12:00 pm and Elizabethtown on Sunday at 11:00 am.
