Women's Tennis Opens Fall Campaign with 6-3 Win at LVC

ANNVILLE, PA – The York College women's tennis team opened their fall campaign with a 6-3 non-conference win at Lebanon Valley College on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans have a number of new faces after graduating Rachel Wagner, the second all-time winningest singles players in school history, and Jessica Sherman.

York opened the match by capturing two of the three doubles matches. Freshman Michaela Sentz and senior Gina Liguori combined to earn a hard-fought 8-7 (7-4) first team doubles win. Lebanon Valley won the second doubles match but the Spartan duo of Lauren Ostermann and Maisie Supp combined to earn an easy 8-2 third doubles win.

In singles play, Sentz opened her Spartan career with a 6-2, 6-2 first singles win over Melanie Haas. Supp opened her senior year with a 6-4, 6-0 third singles win over Madison Poladian. Senior Hannah Shinsky had to go to three sets but she pulled out a 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 fourth singles win over Emily Wilczek. Sophomore Chloe Doyle concluded the match with a 6-2, 0-6, 6-1 sixth singles win over Zoe Birch.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday, September 21 when they head to Grantham, PA to face the Messiah Falcons in a non-conference match up. The match is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
