FROSTBURG, MD – The York College women's tennis squad wrapped up their 2019 Capital Athletic Conference schedule with a 9-0 win at Frostburg State on Saturday afternoon in Frostburg, Maryland.
The Spartans improve to 8-5 overall and 3-4 in the CAC as they secured the fifth seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament. The Bobcats fall to 5-8 and 1-6 in the league. They will be the seventh seed in the tournament.
The Spartans cruised to a trio of wins in doubles. Rachel Wagner and Gina Liguori combined to post an 8-2 first doubles win. Maisie Supp and Hannah Shinsky teamed up to earn an 8-0 second doubles win. Jessica Sherman and Chloe Doyle outlasted Cherise Jenkins and Sophia Staggers 8-5 in the third doubles match.
Wagner began singles play with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win in the first singles flight. Liguori matched her with a 6-0, 6-0 win of her own in the second singles match. Supp earned a 7-5, 6-2 win over Jenkins in the third singles match. Sherman earned a 6-2, 6-0 fourth singles win while Doyle cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 fifth singles win over Staggers. Shinsky closed out the shutout with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Satia Harper.
The Spartans now move on to the Capital Athletic Conference quarterfinals as they travel to Southern Virginia to face the Knights on Saturday, April 27. The match time will be determined on Monday.
