YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis team posted a 9-0 win over St. Mary's College in Capital Athletic Conference action on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in York. The win snaps a two-match losing streak for the Green and White.
York improves to 7-4 overall and 2-3 in the league. The loss drops St. Mary's to 0-15 overall and 0-6 in the conference.
The Spartans captured all three doubles points in convincing fashion. The first doubles tandem of Rachel Wagner and Gina Liguori earned an 8-2 win in their match. Maisie Supp and Hannah Shinsky posted an 8-1 second doubles win for the Green and White. Jessica Sherman and Chloe Doyle posted an 8-0 third doubles win to complete the doubles sweep.
Supp opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-0 third singles win for the Spartans. Wagner followed with a 6-2, 6-1 first singles win over Claire Bodine to put York up 5-0. Liguori posted a 6-2, 6-3 second singles win as the Spartan lineup was rolling.
Doyle earned a 6-1, 6-0 fifth singles win followed by Shinsky's 6-0, 6-0 sixth singles win. Sherman closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-0 fourth singles win.
The Spartans return home on Saturday, April 13 when they host Southern Virginia in a Capital Athletic Conference match. The match is slated for a 10:00 am start at the Spartan Tennis Centre.
