NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The York College women's tennis squad opened the spring portion of their schedule with their Capital Athletic Conference opener on Saturday at Christopher Newport. The Spartans dropped a 9-0 decision to the nationally ranked Captains.
The Spartans fall to 5-2 overall and 0-1 in the league while the 24th ranked Captains improved to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
The Captains swept the three doubles matches by identical scores of 8-1.
CNU kept it rolling in singles play by sweeping the six singles matches. The Captains won one flight 6-0, 6-0. The captured three matches in surrendering just one game. In the sixth singles match, Hannah Shinsky battled in the second set before falling 7-5 after dropping set one 6-1.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday when they head to Middletown, PA to face the Penn State Harrisburg Lions in a Capital Athletic Conference match. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
