WASHINGTON, DC – The York College women's tennis team earned a hard-fought 5-4 non-conference win at Catholic University on Sunday afternoon in Washington, DC. The Spartans improve to 5-0 for the fall campaign.
For the first time this year, the Spartans trailed after the doubles matches as the Cardinals captured the first and second doubles while the team of Hannah Shinsky and Caroline Marderness posted a third doubles win for York.
The Spartans opened singles play with a win from Rachel Wagner at first singles as she downed Erin Cole 6-0, 6-1. The Cardinals won the third singles and then the second singles to take a 4-2 lead in the match.
York responded by winning the fourth, fifth and sixth singles matches to earn the team win. Chloe Doyle earned a 6-4, 6-2 fourth singles win and Shinsky followed with a 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 fifth singles win. Marderness closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-3 sixth singles victory.

The Spartans have won three in a row against the Cardinals … senior Rachel Wagner improves to 33-12 all-time in singles including 5-0 this fall … freshman Chloe Doyle improves to 4-0 in singles play with her Sunday win … sophomore Hannah Shinsky also improved to 4-0 with her fifth singles win.
The Spartans conclude their 2018 fall schedule by hosting Goucher College in a non-conference contest. The match is slated for a 3:00 pm start in York.
