Strong Friday Keeps Spartans Within Championship Striking Distance

ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – The York College women's swim squad had an outstanding Friday at the 2019 Capital Athletic Conference championships. The Spartans head into Saturday in second place, just 15 points behind first place Mary Washington. The Spartans finished Friday with 291 points.

Senior Madeline Mann earned the Spartans' lone win for the day as she was victorious in the 500 freestyle. Junior Julia Trudel set a new school record in the 200 IM as she finished second with a time of 2:07.64.

The 500 freestyle win for senior Madeline Mann was her seventh individual victory of the year … finishes her career as a two-time champion in the 500 freestyle … junior Julia Trudel broke her own school record in the 200 IM … Trudel had set the mark earlier this season at Franklin & Marshall and she shaved another four and a half seconds off that mark on Friday … the 200 freestyle relay squad just missed breaking the school record by .12 seconds.

The Spartans return to the pool Saturday morning at 10:00 am. Saturday's morning sessions include the preliminaries for the 400 IM, the 100 fly, the 200 free, the 100 breaststroke, and the 100 backstroke. Saturday's night finals will include the 400 medley relay. Saturday's finals start at 6:00 pm.
