ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – The York College women's swim squad opened their stay at the 2019 Capital Athletic Conference championships on Thursday night with a strong showing in the two events for the night. York sits second with 72 points, two behind first place Mary Washington.
The championships started with the 200-medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay in St. Mary's City.
The Spartans started the night with a third palce finish in the 200-medley relay. Caitlin Campbell, Jennifer Strine, Alyssa Coon, and Madeline Mann combined to post a time of 1:50.33. The quartet finished just over one second back of second place and under four seconds back of team champion Mary Washington. The Eagles posted an NCAA A time of 1:46.78.
The Spartans picked up their first win of the championships as Adrianna Ayala, Justine Wantz, Andrea Sturgis, and Mann teamed up to post a time of 7:41.37 in the 800 free relay. That time set a new meet record, set by the 2016 Mary Washington squad. That time also destroyed the school record of 7:50.03 set last year at the CAC championships.
The Spartans get back into the pool on Friday morning for the day two preliminaries. The 500 freestyle, the 200 IM, and the 50 freestyle preliminaries will be held while the 200 free relay will be contested starting at 10:00 am.
