Records Fall as the Spartan Women Finish Third at F&M Invitational

LANCASTER, PA – The York College women's swim squad had an outstanding weekend as the Green and White finished third of 13 teams at the 2018 Franklin & Marshall Invitational in Lancaster, PA.

The Spartans finished the weekend with 861 points as they edged Division I Mount St. Mary's for third place. Washington & Lee won the team championship with 1,732 points while CAC rival Mary Washington placed second with 1,190.5 points. Mount St. Mary's finished with 858 points while Franklin & Marshall rounded out the top five with 825 points.

The Spartans set a trio of records for the weekend as Justine Wantz set a new standard in the 100 backstroke in Saturday's prelims. She then set a new record in the 50 backstroke with her opening split of 27.04 in the 200 medley relay. Her opening split was the fastest back split of the meet. Junior Julia Trudel set a new school record in the 400 IM as she broke the old record by almost four full seconds. She also established a new school standard in the 200 IM.

Junior Justine Wantz now owns the top time in the CAC in the 100 backstroke with her school-record time of 57.88 … Wantz also owns the best time in the CAC in the 200 backstroke with her winning time of 2:02.97 … junior Julia Trudel has the third best time in the CAC in the 200 backstroke after her performance in Lancaster … Trudel took over the top spot in the CAC in the 400 IM with her school record time of 4:37.93 … Trudel owns the second-best time in the CAC in the 200 IM, a mere 0.06 seconds back of the top spot … senior Madeline Mann owns the top time in the 200 freestyle in the CAC … senior Andrea Sturgis has the top time in the CAC in the 500 freestyle (5:12.86) and the 1000 free (10:47.15) while she has the second-best time in the CAC in the 1650 free … junior Adrianna Ayala has the top time in the conference in the 100 free with her time of 53.58 this weekend … the 400 free relay team has the conference's best time so far this year while the 200 free relay team also has the top mark.

 

Up Next

The Spartans are off until December 1 when they head to the Washington & Lee Invitational. The two-day event starts at 5:00 pm on Saturday afternoon and concludes Sunday.
