How It Happened:

• The Knights tied the game 14 minutes later as Gracie Ducan fed Savannah Sundberg with a pass off an SVU corner kick that she finished past Spartan keeper Cat McCarty for the goal. The Spartans almost responded just three minutes later as Anna Morton drilled the post with a shot that looked like it was going to find the back of the net. The Spartans did take the lead for good in the 36th minute as Jo Nicholson flicked a header past the goalie to Erin Baier who had a simple finish for her second goal of the year.

• The Spartans had a 9-4 edge in total shots and a 5-1 margin in shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes of play. The Knights did hold a 5-4 advantage in first-half corner kicks.

• York wasted little time in adding to the lead in the second half as Gillcrist fired a shot that was saved by new SVU goalie Alyssa Trueman. Caitlyn Findlay collected the rebound and drilled the ball into the back of the cage for the goal. The Spartans carried the play the remainder of the game as they outshot Southern Virginia 7-2 in the second half of play.
