Spartans Hammer Camden to Open New Year

YORK, Pa. – The York College wrestling team opened the new year with a dominant performance in an exhibition dual against Camden County College Saturday morning in Wolf Gym. The Spartans won nine bouts, including four falls, on their way to a 48-3 victory.


How It Happened

• Camden drew first blood by picking up a win at 285 lbs. to start the dual with a 3-0 lead, but it was all York from that point on as they Spartans ripped off nine-straight victories.

Jared Kuhns started the York run at 125 lbs. with a first-period fall at 2:21 after he scored a takedown and racked up 12 near fall points before finally sticking Kevin Walker to the mat. Brandon Murray built off of Kuhns' performance with a victory of his own at 133 lbs. as the freshman scored a takedown and reversal on his way to a 6-2 victory.

• The Spartans then received forfeits (141, 149 and 165) in three off the next four bouts to take a commanding 33-3 lead. Eric Hutchinson was the lone Spartan middle weight not to receive a forfeit and the redshirt sophomore made the most of his opportunity as he recorded a first-period fall at 1:28 with a pair of takedowns and eight near fall points before eventually securing the pin.

• York closed out the dual with falls in two of the final three bouts. Kyle Strazdus made quick work of his dual meet season debut as he recorded a fall 22 seconds into his bout at 184 lbs. Camden Farrow closed out the dual meet with a dominant performance at 197 lbs. as he built up a 15-point lead before converting a reversal into a pin at 4:47.



Eric Hutchinson extends his team-leading wins total to 17 on the season as he own an overall record of 17-1 … Hutchinson is 6-1 in duals this season with three bonus victories in those matches … Kyle Strazdus improves to 6-6 on the season as he made his dual meet season debut with a pin … Strazdus has five pins on the season as he and Hutchinson are tied for the team lead … Camden Farrow improves to 5-2 in duals this season with an overall record 13-5 … Farrow has compiled four pins overall this season and has four bonus victories in dual meets … Jared Kuhns improves his dual record 5-2 with three bonus victories as he 8-4 overall this season … freshman Brandon Murray made his dual meet career debut as he evens up his overall season record at 5-5.

The Spartans continue to roll through the dual schedule as the take their annual trip to the Budd Whitehill National Duals at Lycoming College next weekend. Action will begin Friday and continue through Saturday.
