WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The York College wrestling squad opened their 2019-20 season at Lycoming College at the Lycoming Invitational on Sunday in Williamsport, PA.
The season opening event was a non-team scoring event as the tournament was a round-robin style with each wrestler getting at least three matches. The tournament was divided into two flights with junior and seniors broken into one group and the freshmen and sophomores into the other group.
Myers returned to the Spartan lineup after missing much of his freshman year due to injury. He went 4-0 to open the year at 184 pounds. He opened the day with a 12-1 major decision over Delaware Valley's Chris Mittler. He then earned a 4-0 win over Lycoming's Gable Crebs. Myers next outlasted David Galassco from Penn College, 8-6, for his third win. He capped his day with a dominating 16-0 tech fall win over Lycoming's Peter Kenney.
Shalbert went 3-0 at 141 pounds. He opened his day with a 3-1 win over Alvernia's Ryan Lesko. Shalbert then pinned teammate Adam Leib in 38 seconds in his second match. He completed his day with another pin, this time putting Alvernia's Patrick Tocci on his back in a time of 2:21.
Schreck pitched a perfect day at 149 as he won all three of his matches. He began with a 16-0 tech fall win over Oneonta's Larson Larame. He followed that with a 14-3 major decision win over Penn College's Jesse Walker. Schreck closed out his day with an injury default win over Oneonta's John Carl Petretti.
Hutchinson went 3-0 at 157 pounds in his first action since last December. Hutchinson began the day with an 18-11 win over Alvernia's Gavin Hollingsworth. He followed that with a win by fall over Alec Meyers from Delaware Valley. He picked up the first period pin 2:10 into the match. Hutchinson closed out the day with another win by fall as he put Lycoming's Preston Rogers on his back in 1:28.
Sophomore Jason Litvak had a big day at 165 pounds as he went 3-1 in his Spartan debut. Litvak lost his first match of the day but bounced back to win three straight matches to finish 3-1.
The Spartans had a number of wrestlers get two wins on the day including Brandon Murray (125-pounds), Michael Fouts (149-pounds), Timmy Sparks (149-pounds), Joey Bunce (174-pounds), Kyle Strazdus (174-pounds), Jesse Rocco (165-pounds), Julian Albero (285-pounds), and Thomas Tabatneck (285-pounds).
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, November 9 when they head to King's College to participate in the Ned McGinley Invitational. The action is set to kick off at 9:00 am.
