#25 Spartans Post Come-From-Behind Victory at Messiah

GRANTHAM, PA – The York College wrestling team posted a huge come-from-behind win over regional rival Messiah College on Friday night in Grantham, PA. The Spartans trailed the entire match until junior Brandon Ballard posted a pin in the heavyweight bout to give the Spartans a 23-18 victory.

The Spartans improve to 13-3 overall while the Falcons fall to 14-5.

Messiah started off the match with a win by fall and two decisions to take a commanding 12-0 lead. Spartan senior Greg Warner got the Spartans on the board in impressive fashion as he pinned Michael Bellerose in a mere 1:11 as York trailed 12-6.

Messiah got a win at 157-pounds to take a 15-6 lead. Sophomore Jesse Rocco earned a hard-fought 4-3 win at 165 pounds, drawing York closer to the Falcons. Junior Jackson Drum followed with an 11-2 major decision win at 174-pounds as York trailed by two with three bouts remaining.

In the 184-pound match, Ben Swarr got a take down late in the third period to outlast Frankie Krauss 6-5 as Messiah led 18-13. Senior Jesse Huber continued his late season surge with an impressive 13-5 major decision win over Joe Embleton, setting the stage for Ballard's heroics in the heavyweight bout. Ballard earned the win just before the end of the first period, giving the Spartans their second straight regular season win over Messiah.

Senior Greg Warner improves to 24-6 overall as he now has five pins … Warner is 121-34 for his career as he is 10 wins away from tying Ryan Flynn for the school record in career victories … the win for Jesse Rocco was his 14th of the year … Jackson Drum improved to 13-4 with his second major decision win of the season … Jesse Huber improves to 18-4 overall as the major decision win was his fourth of the year … the win was Huber's 49th career victory … the decision win for Brandon Ballard was his first win in the Green and White after joining the Spartan program at the semester break.

 

Up Next

The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they head back up the Messiah Open. The Green and White will take a limited lineup to Grantham to participate in the event. The Spartans conclude their regular season on Thursday, February 14 when they travel to Gettysburg to face the Bullets in a non-conference match up.
