How It Happened

• The Captains got off to an incredible start scoring seven runs in the first inning on just five hits. Maddie Hool started things off with a lead-off homer followed by two singles and a walk to load the bases with no outs. Kaitlyn Hasty would then single to right to bring in another run. Back-to-back bases-loaded hit by pitches pushed the score out to 4-0. Hool would come up again and deliver a two-run single followed by a double steal to complete the seven-run innings.

• York would answer right away in the second scoring six runs of their own on six hits while taking advantage of a pair of Captain errors. Mia Ruffalo led off the inning with a solo shot out to center field to put York on the board. Later, Julie Van O'Linda singled to right field to bring in Alexis Jury. A Natalie Decena bunt single would bring in another run followed by Van O'Linda scoring on a Captain error cutting the deficit to three. A wild pitch followed by an RBI-single by Shyla Pastore would complete the six-run frame for the Spartans as they were right back in the game.

• The Captains put up three more runs in the bottom half of the second stanza. Hasty launched a two-run homer to start the scoring in the inning. Sarah Proctor doubled to right followed by a Caroline Helmer RBI-single to push the lead back out to four runs.

• Over the next four innings there were just two hits combined with both coming off the bats of the Spartans. York would get one run back in the top half of the seventh on a lead-off homer by Taylor Lindsay to cut the Captain lead to three. York would be unable to get any closer and they fell in game one 10-7.
