How It Happened

• Both teams struggled to get anything going offensively through the first six innings of play. The Spartans were able to get two runners on in third and fifth innings but would leave them stranded as the game remained scoreless headed into the seventh frame.

• The Spartans would finally break the scoreless deadlock in the seventh inning. After a pair of groundouts to start the frame, Madison Brumagin would work the two-out walk. Elle Meyer would rip a single and Brumagin would end up coming all the way around to score advancing on the hit and a Knight error to give York the 1-0 lead.

Ginger Lewis would come in to close the deal in the seventh and she would get the Knights to go down 1-2-3 and York took game one 1-0.

How It Happened

• The Spartans kept their momentum from game one as they scored just three batters into game two. Alyssa Harhigh would launch an opposite field homer to lead off the scoring and York led 1-0 after the first inning.

• York would add three more runs in the third inning on just one hit as they took advantage of a Knight error and a pair of walks and hit-by-pitches in the frame. York would get their runs on an error off a sacrifice bunt by Mia Ruffalo that scored Shyla Pastore. Then Joanna Marmo would hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Harhigh followed by an RBI-single by Julie Van O'Linda that brought in Ruffalo as York led 4-0 after three.

• The Spartans would add three in the fourth in a similar fashion to the third with two runs scoring on a Knight error and a bases-loaded walk to Madison Brumagin to give York a comfortable 7-0 advantage through four.

• In the fifth inning, the Spartans would work four walks and score one more run on a passed ball that brought in Natalie Decena. Samantha Kiser would retire the Knights in order in the bottom half of the fifth and York would win 8-0 via the run-rule.

The Spartans are now 11-1 all-time against the Knights … the two wins were their seventh and eighth shutout victories on the season … York hit their 29th home run as a team breaking the old program record of 28 homers set back in 2017 ... York worked a season-high 12 walks in game two which was the most since they have seven free passes back on March 6 against Eastern … York has pitched a shutout in their last three games … the Spartans have won six games via the run rule this year … Alyssa Harhigh launched her 12th home run of the season in the game two win and she is tied for second-most in the country with two others … she is all alone at sixth all-time for career home runs in school history … Madison Brumagin has been hot at the plate her last three games going 4-for-4 with 3 walks and two doubles … with a hit in game one and two in game two, Julie Van O'Linda extended her hitting streak to six games … Elle Meyer also extended her hitting streak with a nine-game streak of her own … Meyer is also second in the CAC with 14 stolen bases … York is now 7-3 on the road this year.

The Spartans are still on the road as they will take on #3 Christopher Newport on Sunday in a CAC doubleheader. First pitch scheduled for 12:00 pm in Newport News, Virginia.
