Messiah would add another run in the second innings on a triple by Karlee Stocksdale followed by an RBI-double by Haylee Anders as Messiah led 3-0 early.

• In the top of the fourth Messiah would extend their lead to four taking advantage of a Spartan error and an Anders single to left field putting York in a 4-0 hole with three innings to play.

• York broke the shutout in the bottom of the sixth inning. Elle Meyer would lead the inning off with a single and then Alyssa Harhigh would launch a two-run homerun to right field to cut the Falcon lead in half. York would bring the tying run to the plate with one out in the seventh but fail to bring in any runs as they fell 4-2 in game one.

How It Happened

• The game was a pitching duel throughout as both teams were held scoreless through the first five innings and there were just a combined four hits between the teams in the first five frames.

• Messiah would finally break through scoring a pair of runs in the top of the sixth on three singles. Samantha Fouracre would bring in the first run on an RBI-single and an Amanda Peterson fielder's choice brought in the second giving the Falcons a 2-0 lead.

• York would respond in a big way in the bottom of the sixth. Hannah Vogt led off the inning with a walk followed by another walk by Shyla Pastore. Elle Meyer would then single to lead the bases, this was the first of four straight singles, all to center field, for the Spartans. Alyssa Harhigh, Mia Ruffalo, and Taylor Lindsay all picked up RBI-singles and a sacrifice bunt by Joanna Marmo would give York some insurance as they lead 4-2 with one inning to play. Ginger Lewis would get the Falcons to go down in order in the seventh and York completed the comeback victory winning 4-2.

The Spartans are now 13-26 all-time against the Falcons … the win in game two snapped a seven-game losing streak to Messiah … York homered in their third straight game in game one and had seven homers in their last three games to that point … the Spartans struck out seven times in game one which was tied for the second-most in a single game this season … the four runs scored were the fewest in a win this season … the Spartans did not walk a single batter for the second time all season in game one … Alyssa Harhigh hit her team-leading eighth homerun in game one and also leads the team with 25 RBI … Ginger Lewis now has five complete games in her seven starts … the Spartans are 3-1 at home this season.

The Spartans will open up their conference season with a doubleheader against the University of Mary Washington Eagles on Saturday. First game scheduled to start at 1:00 pm. The Spartans will also be celebrating Little League Softball Day on Saturday.
