How It Happened

• The Spartans got on the board in the bottom of the first with a two out rally. Ashley Meekins started the uprising with a single up the middle. Senior Haley Hirn followed with a single down the third base line to put runners at first and second. Joanna Marmo then reached on an error to load the bases. Senior Ashley Werner then came through with a single up the middle to plate Meekins and Hirn with the game's opening runs.

• York tacked on a third run in the second as Shyla Pastore ripped a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Julie Van O'Linda who doubled to open the frame.

• The Eagles put together a rally of their own in the top of the third. The inning started with a walk to Amy Sykes. After a flyout to center, Hannah Bruns had an infield single and each Eagle runner moved up a base due to a Spartan error. Starter Melissa Jurkiewicz got a strikeout but a wild pitch on strike three allowed Sykes to score the first run for the Eagles. An RBI ground out from Danielle Newman brought the Eagles to within a run. Jurkiewicz got out of the jam as the Spartans maintained the lead.

• The Spartans quickly answered in the bottom of the third as Hirn opened the inning with a walk. She was sacrificed to second and scored on a Werner single to right. Eryn Bailey doubled to deep left to put Spartans at second and third. Van O'Linda then plated pinch runner Mia Ruffalo with a squeeze as York pushed the lead back to three runs.
