Spartan Win Streak Halted as Messiah Sweeps Friday Twin Bill

GRANTHAM, PA – The York College softball squad had their six-game win streak snapped on Friday as the Messiah College Falcons swept the Spartans in a non-conference doubleheader in Grantham. The Falcons won game one 8-1 and completed the sweep with a six-inning, 9-1 win in the nightcap.

How It Happened:

• The Falcons opened the scoring on a Nicole Kreimer RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the second.

• York tied the game in the top of the fifth as senior Savannah Zittle stroked a triple to right center, scoring Julie Van O'Linda with one out. The Spartans would be unable to get Zittle home from third as the next two hitters popped out to second and grounded out to short.

• The Falcons recaptured the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Erin Cressman scored Carrie Fix with an RBI single. Cressman then scored on a Lynsey Quinn single up the middle to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead.

• Messiah blew the game wide open with a five run bottom of the sixth. Haylee Anders had a two run single and Cressman closed out the scoring with a three-run homer to center.

How It Happened:

• The Falcons jumped on the Spartans in the bottom of the second with a three run frame. Carrie Fix opened the scoring with a sacrifice fly to right. Haylee Anders then scored a pair with a two-run single to center for the 3-0 Falcon lead.

• Messiah's McKenzie Tebbs made it 4-0 in the bottom of the third with an RBI ground out to second.

• The lead grew to 5-0 in the fifth with a Cressman home run.

• York scored their lone run of game courtesy of an Eryn Bailey double to center that scored Ashley Meekins. Meekins reached on a double of her own before Bailey's double.

• The Falcons closed out the game with a four spot in the bottom of the inning to invoke the eight-run rule.
