Smith Earns 10K Win as Spartan Men Perform Well at Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, PA – The York College men's track & field team traveld to the Millersville Metrics Meet on Saturday in Millersville, PA. The Spartans finished 13th of 23 teams at the big event.

The Spartans' best performance came from senior Ray Smith as he won the 10,000-meter run by over five seconds. Smith finished more than a minute and a half in front of the next Division III runner. It was the first time in Smith's career that he competed in a collegiate 10K.

"It was a good day to compete and our guys did a good job," said head coach Stephen LoBianco … the day was highlighted by Ray Smith's win in the 10,000 meter run … the Spartans had a number of PRs during the beautiful Saturday … Josh Starkey recorded a PR in the 200 with a time of 24.21 … Sam Wiedorfer and Nicholas Stem also set new PRs in the 200 … Wiedorfer set his career standard with a time of 23.71 while Stem posted a time of 24.48 … Seth Hawkins and Raven Alwine-Frank each set new career bests in the 400 hurdles … Hawkins had a time of 1:00.88 while Alwine-Frank had a time of 1:08.29 … other PRs include Grayson Jones in the long jump, Tucker Deacon in the 800 and Tony Nelo in the shot put.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday when they travel to the Messiah College Invitational. The action is slated to kick off at 10:00 am.
