Men's Tennis Improves to 5-0 with Sunday Win

YORK, PA – The York College men's tennis team improved to 5-0 with a 5-3 win over Catholic University in a non-conference contest in York. The match was moved to the indoor Wisehaven Tennis Club after rain prevented the match from being played at the Spartan Tennis Centre. The match was played to result due to playing indoors.

The Green and White got off to a great start in the doubles matches. Ben Sentz and Tej Laliwala kicked off the match with an 8-4 first doubles win. Tyler Richard and Justin Rose combined to earn an 8-3 second doubles win. The Cardinals earned the third doubles win as York took a 2-1 lead to singles play.

The Cardinals drew even with a first singles win as Frankie Fortunati outlasted Sentz 3-6, 6-4, 10-8. Laliwala gave the lead back to York with an easy 6-2, 6-1 second singles win over Eric Macarski. The Cardinals won their final match of the day Kyle Weber outlasted Richard in an epic 1-6, 6-2, 13-11 third singles match.

Rose rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 fourth singles match to put York up 4-3. Josiah Forry clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-3 fifth singles win over Joe Colucci as York remained unbeaten for the fall portion of their season.

The Spartans will close out their fall campaign with a trip to Virginia next weekend. The Spartans face Randolph in a non-conference match on Friday afternoon at 2:00 pm. York will then travel to Buena Vista to face Southern Virginia in a Capital Athletic Conference contest on Saturday at 11:30 am.
