YORK, PA. – The Spartan swimming team will send sophomore Keven Stahl and junior Justine Wantz to the 2019 NCAA Division III Swimming Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Championships open on Wednesday, running through Saturday, March 23.
Stahl will compete in the 500 freestyle, the 400 individual medley, and 1650 freestyle. His first event will be the 500 freestyle with preliminary races beginning a 10:00 am on Wednesday, with the finals starting at 6:00 pm.
Stahl capped another strong season for the Spartans compiling 24 individual wins on the season as well as three victories during the Capital Athletic Conference championships a few weeks ago. Stahl has qualified for nationals in each of his first two seasons at York and became the second swimmer in school history to earn All-American honors when he garnered that award in last year's 1650 freestyle. Stahl currently owns top-30 times nationwide in all three events.
Wantz made history for the Spartan women's swimming program becoming the first woman to compete at the national championships in school history. Wantz had a solid junior season accumulating 15 total wins with 11 coming individually and four in relays.
Wantz will also be competing in three events as she has the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 200 backstroke on the schedule for her this week. Wantz is a five-time CAC champion after winning three CAC championships a week ago. She currently holds the 12th fastest time in the country in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:01.94 and is just 0.34 seconds away from cracking the top ten.
The two swimmers combined for six CAC championships and were the CAC swimmers of the week a combined five times in 2018-19.
