ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – The York College men's swim team sits second after day one of the 2019 Capital Athletic Conference championships in St. Mary's City, Maryland. The Spartans totaled 68 points as they are 12 points back of Mary Washington.
The championships kicked off Thursday night with the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay being contested.
York kicked off the night with second place finish in the 200 medley relay. The foursome of Greg Williams, Tyler Maggio, Jesse Tate, and Nick Foltz combined to post a time of 1:34.03. That was just over two seconds back of Mary Washington as the Eagles set a new meet and conference record with a time of 1:31.96.
The Spartans recorded their second runner-up finish of the night in the 800 freestyle relay. The team of Keven Stahl, Connor McIlroy, Kaelan Dowdall, and Tate combined to post a time of 6:53.87, five seconds back of Mary Washington as the Eagles earned their second win of the night.
The Spartans get back into the pool on Friday morning for the day two preliminaries. The 500 freestyle, the 200 IM, and the 50 freestyle preliminaries will be held while the 200 free relay will be contested starting at 10:00 am.
