How It Happened

• The Eagles jumped on the Spartans early as they scored three of the first five goals of the game. UMW led 3-2 on a Vinny Smiroldo goal with 9:37 left in the quarter. The Spartans answered in a big way as they ripped off five straight goals to end the quarter. Hunter Davis, Brendan McGrath and Thomas Pfeiffer each scored a goal during the run while Brad Casale scored back-to-back goals during the spurt.

• The run carried into the second quarter as Davis and Eben Ordakowski each scored goals in the opening three minutes of the quarter to give York a 9-4 lead. After Mary Washington's Kieran Burns scored at the 11:29 mark, York scored four consecutive goals to push the lead to 13-4. Ordakowski scored twice while Davis and Pfeiffer also scored as the Green and White were in full control of the game. The Eagles got the final goal of the half but it was too-little-too-late for the visitors.

• If there was any doubt about the result at the half, the third quarter erased any questions as York outscored the Eagles 4-1. Pfeiffer, McGrath, Brett Altenburg, and Dylan Wolf scored the goals for York.

• The fourth quarter provided the ability for a number of Spartan reserves to get on the field to gain valuable game experience. The teams exchanged goals in the final quarter to provide for the final score.
