Pfeiffer Breaks Assist Mark as Spartans Get Total Team Effort in Saturday Win

YORK, PA – The York College men's lacrosse team received a total team effort with a 13-4 win over Bryn Athyn in a non-conference game on Saturday night in York. The Spartans played less than 24 hours after dispatching #5 Cabrini 11-7 in a Friday night showdown of nationally ranked squads. The Spartans have now won three straight as nine different players scored goals in the win for the Spartans. Senior Thomas Pfeiffer became the Spartans' all-time assists leader in the win as his three helpers lifted him past Tyler Hutson for the all-time record.

How It Happened

• The Spartans got off to a good start in the first quarter as York raced out to a 4-0 lead after the first 15 minutes of play. Seniors Hunter Davis and Thomas Pfeiffer were largely responsible for the early offense. Davis scored the first two goals of the quarter as Pfeiffer assisted on both tallies. Davis returned the favor as he fed Pfeiffer for York's third goal. Pfeiffer then assisted Brett Altenburg for the Spartans' fourth goal of the quarter.

• The Spartans kept rolling in the second quarter as the received goals from Brendan O'Sullivan, Jacob Wilhelm, and Dylan Wolf. The Lions got on the board with 2:28 left in the half as York took a 7-1 lead to the break.

• The first nine minutes of the third quarter were scoreless before the Green and White netted three straight goals in a 3:16 span to push the lead to 10-1. Eric Ranck scored the first goal of the run while redshirt freshman Nate Johnnie got his first two collegiate goals for the Green and White. The Lions got a pair of goals to end the third as the Spartans led 10-3.

• The Green and White started the fourth quarter with goals from Wilhelm, Altenburg and Ames Clark before the Lions got the last goal of the game to account for the final score.

The meeting was the first between the two programs … senior Thomas Pfeiffer had three assists which gave him the school record for career assists as he passed former Spartan All-American Tyler Hutson for first place … Pfeiffer now has 82 career assists … the Spartans had a number of players notch their first goals of the season on Saturday as Brett Altenburg, Jacob Wilhelm, and Nate Johnnie each recorded their first goals of the season … the goals for Wilhelm and Johnnie were the first goals of their collegiate careers … sophomore J.T. Kidd was fantastic at the X as he won a career-high 19 face offs, tying for the fourth highest total in school history … Kidd alos had a career-high tying eight ground balls … sophomore Hunter Imbriale picked up a career-high five ground balls in the win … senior Hunter Davis now has 190 points for his career as he is on the cusp of joining a very select group of 200 point scorers for the Spartans … York has just three 200 point scorers in school history as Hutson leads the way with 286 points while Andrew Gamble is second with 223 points with Pfieffer currently sitting third with 216 points … the Spartans reached double figures in goals for the eighth time in ten games … York had 12 assists in the win, their second-highest total of the year … York put a season-high 73.3% of their shots on goal in the win … the Spartans' 33 shots on goal tied a season high (also vs. Eastern) … York scooped up a season-high 53 ground balls … York earned a season-high 13 caused turnovers … York won 19-of-21 face offs and captured 37 of 42 face offs in the two games for the weekend … York attempted a season-low nine clears … the four goals allowed tied a season low as York now has three games with just four goals allowed … York improves to 5-0 at home.
