How It Happened
• After a scoreless five minutes to start the game, the Green and White opened the scoring as senior Thomas Pfeiffer scored a transition goal after a Cabrini turnover with 9:29 left in the quarter. York got their second goal of the game less than five minutes later as defender J.D. Beck caused a turnover and grabbed a ground ball to get the offense into transition. Gunnar Reynolds finished the break off a pass from Jake Hvazda to give York the two-goal lead. The Green and White made it 3-0 with a Hunter Davis goal off a pass from Hvazda with 1:31 left in the quarter.
• The opening nine minutes of the second quarters saw both goalies play well in keeping the offenses at bay. Spartan freshman Jack Michael was particularly dynamic as he notched five saves to keep the Cavaliers off the board. While Michael was playing magician in goal, the Spartan offense got going in the final five plus minutes of the quarter. With 5:05 left before the half, Brad Casale got a goal to put the Spartans up 4-0. Freshman Eben Ordakowski made it 5-0 1:19 later with his first collegiate goal. Ordakowski struck again 2:35 after his first goal as the Spartan lead grew to 6-0 just before the half.
• Cabrini finally got on the board midway through the third quarter as Bill Morgan scored. York responded with goals from Davis and Hunter as the lead grew to 8-1. After a second Cabrini goal, Pfeiffer and Hvazda scored to put the Green and White up 10-2 heading to the fourth quarter.
• The Cavaliers gained momentum to start the fourth as they got man up goals from Mike Gerzabek and Tyler Kostack to trim the Spartan lead to 10-4. The Cavaliers kept their run going with three more goals as the Spartan lead dwindled to 10-7. Brendan McGrath halted the run and closed out the scoring with his 22nd goal of the year with 2:02 left in the game.
