FLOWERY BRANCH, GA – The York College men's golf squad finished 11th at the two day Royal Lakes Fall Invitational hosted by Oglethorpe University on Tuesday. The tournament was held at the Royal Lakes Golf Club in Flowery Branch, Georgia. The course played at par 72 for the tournament.
The Spartans finished with a team score of 588 as they shot a season best 295 on Monday only to better that by two strokes on Tuesday with a 293. The Spartans finished one stroke back of tenth and ten strokes out of seventh place.
Hampden-Sydney won the tournament with a two-day total of 559 (-17). Guilford finished second, seven strokes back with a score of 566. McDaniel placed third (573) while Babson (575), Oglethorpe (576) and LaGrange (576) rounded out the top five in the tournament.
Freshman Evan Sitts was York's top finisher as he finished tied for 19th with a two-day total of 143. Sitts fired a one-over-par 73 on Monday followed by a two-under-par 70 on Tuesday. On Monday, Sitts shot a two-under 34 on the front with three birdies and a bogey. He had a pair of bogies and a birdie through 17 before a double-bogey seven left him with a 73. Sitts began Tuesday's round with seven pars, a birdie and a bogey for an even-par 34. He then birdied three of the first five holes on the back, along with a pair of bogies as he was one under through 14. After a pair of pars, Sitts birdied 17 and parred 18 for his two-under-par 70.
Junior Luke Fayocavitz was York's next finisher as he placed tied for 27th in the 102-player field. Fayocavitz started Monday with a 40 on the back nine as he started on 10. He then put together a sizzling back nine as he went three under on the front for a 33 as he shot 73 for the round. He came back and shot an even par 36 on his opening nine on Tuesday followed by a roller coaster ride on his second nine. Fayocavitz opened the nine with two birdies on the first three holes followed by a birdie, a bogey, a birdie, a double bogey, a birdie, a par and a bogey as he ended with an even par 36.
Freshman Nick Fioravante was York's next scorer as he shot a two-day total of 147. Fiorvante was two over on Monday followed by a one-over par 73 on Tuesday. On Monday, he was one over on his opening nine followed by a one over 37 on the back as he shot the 74. On Tuesday, Fioravante's score was hampered by two holes as he ended his front nine with a bogey and a double bogey for a three-over-par 39. Fortunately, the freshman came back to record three birdies and a bogey on the front to fire a two-under-par 34.
Sophomore Matthew Chalupa was York's final scorer in the tournament with a two-day total of 154. Chalupa was four-over on Monday with a 76 followed by a 78 on Tuesday. Chalupa shot identical 38's on both nines on Monday. He followed that with matching 39's on his two nines on Tuesday. He finished tied for 73rd.
Freshman Riley Rohlfs was York's final tournament participant as he finished with a total of 159. Rohlfs shot 75 on Monday but notched an 84 on Tuesday.
The Spartans conclude their 2019 fall campaign with a trip to Greensboro, North Carolina to participate in the O'Briant Jensen Memorial Touranament hosted by Guilford College. The two-day tournament kicks off on Monday, October 28 at the Sedgefield Country Club.
