ABBOTTSTOWN, PA – The York College men's golf squad picked their second runner-up finish of the year as they placed second at the McDaniel College Fall Invitational this weekend at the Bridges Golf Club in Abbottstown, PA.
The Spartans finished 11 strokes behind host McDaniel as they Green Terror shot a two-day total of 593. McDaniel was one stroke up on the Spartans after the first round but put together a strong Sunday performance to finish with a two-day total of 593. The Spartans fired a 297 on Saturday followed by a 307 for a two-day total of 604. Goucher (607) finished third followed by Franklin & Marshall (609) and Swarthmore (609).
Junior Luke Fayocavitz led the way for the Green and White as he finished tied for second. Fayocavitz shot a 76 on Saturday followed by an even-par 72 on Sunday. Fayocavitz finished two strokes back of tournament champion Kevin Keane from McDaniel who shot 72 on Saturday and 74 on Sunday to earn the win.
A trio of freshmen were York's next two finishers as Nick Fioravante, Riley Rohlfs and Tyler Woodward all tied for 26th place as they shot two-day totals of 153. Fioravante shot a one-over par 73 on Saturday followed by an 80 on Sunday. Rohlfs shot a 75 on Saturday and then a 78 on Sunday. Woodward was consistent with a 76 on Saturday and a 77 on Sunday.
Freshman Evan Sitts was York's fifth tournament participate as he tied for the team low with his 73 on Saturday. He finished with an 81 on Sunday to finish with a score of 154. He finished the tournament tied for 35th place in the 96-player field.
The Spartans return to action on Monday, October 7 when they head to Flowery Branch, Georgia to compete in the Oglethorpe Royal Lakes Fall Invitational hosted by Oglethorpe University. The two-day tournament kicks off at 9:30 on Monday morning.
