PITTSFORD, NY – The York College men's golf team finished fifth of five teams at the Fred Kravetz Invitational hosted by the University of Rochester. The Spartans shot a two-day total of 637 as they finished 17 strokes back of champion McDaniel.
York was five strokes back after round one as they shot a 315. The Green and White struggled in round two as they shot 322. McDaniel won the tournament with a score of 620 as they fired matching rounds of 310. Rochester finished second at 629 while Bentley was third at 631. Roberts Wesleyan finished five strokes in front of York at 632 while Clarkson rounded out the field at 660.
Senior Tyler Newton was York's top finisher as he tied for fourth with a tournament total of 153. Newton shot a 79 on Friday but roared back with a 74 on Saturday. His 74 was the second best score of the tournament on Saturday. Newton finished three strokes back of tournament champion Erich Spitz of Robets Wesleyan as he beat Rochester's Declan Hickton in a playoff.
Freshman Casey Leebrick was York's next finisher as he tied for 12th with a tournament score of 158. Leebrick shot an 80 on Friday followed by a 78 on Saturday as he finished tied with three other players at 14-over-par for the tournament.
Sophomore Luke Fayocavitz was York's third finishers as he tied for 19th. Fayocavitz was stellar on Friday with a team leading 75 but the sophomore couldn't back that up as he shot an 88 on Saturday to finish with a tournament score of 163. Matthew Chalupa was York's fourth scorer in the tournament as he shot a two-day total of 167. Chalupa fired an 81 on Friday followed by an 86 on Saturday.
Dylan Wyatt was York's fifth tournament participant as he finished with a score of 171. Wyatt shot an 87 on Friday followed by an 84 on Saturday.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday afternoon as they begin the three-day Capital Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Christopher Newport University. The championships will be held at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Virginia.
