Jon Showers will begin his fifth year on Matt Hunter’s men’s basketball coaching staff in 2019-20. Showers comes to the Spartan program after serving as an assistant coach at Marywood University. He will be responsible in assisting Hunter in all aspects of the Spartan men’s basketball program.
Showers is a familiar name in York County basketball circles. He played at York Catholic and won a District 3 championship and played in the Pennsylvania State Championship game in 2005. Showers led the Irish to four consecutive eastern state tournament semifinal berths. He started 120 games for the Irish as York Catholic went a stellar 99-31 during his high school career. Showers finished his Irish career with 1,290 points.
After York Catholic, Showers played at Emerson College in Boston before earning his degree at Penn State University in 2011.
Showers began his coaching career at Millersville University, as he was an assistant coach for the Marauders from 2011-2013. Millersville posted 19 wins during the 2012-13 campaign, their highest win total in five seasons.
In his two seasons at Marywood University, the Pacers recorded their second-highest win total in school history in 2014-15 while the team also had their best-ever team GPA.
Showers is very active in the summer hoops scene. He is a coach of the York Ballers AAU program, an elite AAU program based in York that has produced college players that have gone on to compete in all three levels of the NCAA.
Showers owns a bachelor of arts, history from Penn State and a masters of education from Millersville.
