How It Happened:
• The Falcons jumped out on top early, 7:29 into the game. Messiah's Ashley Smith scored off a Mackenzie Brubaker corner for the early lead. The goal was Smith's third goal of the year. The Spartans wasted little time in answering as freshman Abby Piotrowski found the back of the cage off a Spartan corner exactly 30 seconds after the Messiah's tally. Piotrowksi took an initial shot off the corner that was saved but she scooped up the rebound and poked it home for her fifth goal of the year.
• The second quarter would be void of many offensive opportunities as both teams had one shot in the quarter with neither attempt coming on goal. The Falcons outshot the Spartans 8-3 in the first half while they held a 6-1 margin in penalty corners.
• The Falcons took the lead for good with 16 seconds left in the third quarter. Smith took a shot from the top of the circle that was tipped home by Josie Weaver for the goal. It was Weaver's sixth goal of the year.
• The Spartans played well in the fourth period but weren't able to throw any shots on goal. The Falcons iced the game with a goal with 7.4 seconds left in regulation as Weaver fed Hannah Palm with a pass that Palm finished to provide for the final 3-1 Falcon margin of victory.
