YORK, PA - York College junior defender Jennifer Morrissette has been named the Capital Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
Morrissette led the Spartans to a pair of wins for the week including a shutout victory over St. Mary's on Saturday.
Morrissette started the week by spearheading a defense that held Stevenson to five shots and one goal in York's 8-1 victory. Morrissette played 68 of the 70 minutes in the win.
On Saturday, Morrissette led the defense to a shutout, their third of the year. Morrissette registered a defensive save as York's first save of the day which didn't come until the second half. The Spartans allowed the Seahawks just one foray into York's defensive circle in the first half and limited them to just five shots for the game. Morrissette played the entire game in the Spartan shutout.
For the season, the Spartans have allowed just four goals in five games at home as the Spartans have a pair of clean sheets at home. Morrissette now has 16 career defensive saves as she is third on the all-time list and three back of school record holder Kari Moyer. Morrissette is the third Spartan to earn conference player of the week honors this year (Eve Hauptle - Defensive Player of the Week September 11, Autumn Mallory - Offensive Player of the Week on September 11 and on October 2)
