SALISBURY, MD – The seventh-ranked Salisbury University Sea Gulls used a six-goal first half to down the York College Spartans 8-1 in Capital Athletic Conference play on a rainy Wednesday night in Salisbury, MD.
The Sea Gulls improve to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in the CAC while the Spartans are now 0-2 in the conference and 3-8 overall. The Spartans have now lost five in a row after a three-game win streak in mid-September.
Salisbury scored early and often as they scored four goals in the first 20 minutes of the game. Courtney Jantzen tallied the first two goals of the game, her ninth and tenth goals of the year. Stacy Lamboni and Summer Washburn scored goals three and four. Hannah Miller scored with 11:30 left in the half to make the score 5-0. Yumi Kim struck just 20 seconds later to provide for a six-goal margin for the Gulls.
Lamboni opened the second half with her second goal of the game. Hannah Castelow tallied Salisbury's final goal with just over 17 minutes left in the game.
Salisbury outshot York 28-6 including 16-6 in shots on goal. The Gulls also held a 7-5 margin in penalty corners.
Rachel Clewer earned the win in goal for the Gulls as she registered four saves in 60:30 of action. Kate Russo played the remaining 9:30 and allowed one goal with one save.
Abby Baker (Baltimore, Md./Mercy) started in goal and surrendered six goals in 26:43 of action. Baker made five saves in her stint. Brittany Alvarado (South Plainfield, N.J./South Plainfield) played the final 43:17 and made three saves while she allowed two goals.
The Spartans return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Frostburg State University to face the Bobcats in CAC action. Game time in Frostburg is set for 5:00 pm.
