YORK, PA. – The York College baseball team received great news as the Spartans placed a pair of players on the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Division III All-South Region team. Senior outfielder Grant Oberholtzer earned first-team honors while freshman shortstop Austin Denlinger was named to the second team.
Both players were named to All-Capital Athletic Conference teams earlier this month with Oberholtzer earning first-team honors and Denlinger being named the Rookie-of-the-Year and being placed on the second team.
Oberholtzer earned All-South Region first team honors for the second consecutive year becoming just the third Spartan to earn multiple first-team honors joining Travis Gaidos and Matt Day who both did it in the early 2000s. Oberholtzer led the Spartans in many offensive categories from the lead-off spot with a .360 batting average, 63 total hits, 55 runs, a .452 on-base percentage, a .617 slugging percentage, and a perfect 22-for-22 stealing bases. Oberholtzer also smashed 13 doubles, four triples, and eight home runs while collecting 38 RBI for the Green and White. He was also outstanding in the field as he fielding .992 in 124 chances in centerfield on the season. Oberholtzer finished his stellar Spartan career as a .365 career hitter on 171 hits with 34 doubles, seven triples, and 16 home runs. He also scored 134 runs and stole 35 bases in his career. Oberholtzer is among the top-ten lists in program history in career batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs scored, triples, home runs, RBI, and stolen bases.
Denlinger earned All-South Region second team honors after earning Rookie-of-the-Year and second team All-CAC honors after a tremendous first year in the Green and White. Denlinger hit .358 on 62 hits with 14 doubles, a team-leading five triples, and two homers. Denlinger scored 45 runs, knocked in 28 more, and stole 12 bases on the year. On the season, he led the team with 21 multi-hit games.
Denlinger was one of three freshmen to be placed on an All-South Region team. The two Spartans joined ten other CAC players across the three All-Region squads.
