Baseball Stays Hot with Sweep of Marymount

ARLINGTON, VA – The York College baseball team earned a key pair of Capital Athletic Conference road wins on Saturday as the Spartans swept the Marymount University Saints in Arlington, Virginia.

The Spartans have won five straight as they have moved up to fourth place in the CAC, two games back of Penn State Harrisburg.

How It Happened

• The Saints jumped on the Spartans early with a three-run bottom of the first inning. Kaden Darrow hit a two run homer and Luke Tyree followed with a solo shot to put the Saints up early.

• York responded with a six run top of the fourth. The inning was highlighted by a Seth Brosius grand slam to center. The Saints got one run back in the bottom of the frame as York led 6-4 after four innings.

• The teams traded runs in the seventh as York led by two heading to the ninth. York exploded for a big five run frame in the ninth. Grant Oberholtzer had a two-run double to highlight the uprising.

• Marymount got a Darrow home run to lead off the ninth and Conner Hall tripled down the right field line. Hall scored on a wild pitch to close out the scoring.

How It Happened

• Game two was a shoot out from the start. York opened the scoring with a two-run homer from Seth Brosius to get the Green and White on the board. Marymount got one of those runs back on a Kaden Darrow RBI ground out.

• York added a run in the second and four more in the fourth as York took a 7-1 lead. Jack Barry launched a solo homer to start the scoring in the third. Sophomore Bailey Doan had a two run single and Grant Oberholtzer had an RBI fielder's choice for York's fourth run of the frame.

• The Spartans made it 8-1 when Christian Bilan scored on a wild pitch in the fourth. Marymount answered with a pair of runs in the fourth and one more in the fifth to cut York's lead to 8-4.

• York got a trio of runs in the sixth, pushing the lead to 11-4. The Green and White added three more in the seventh. Barry drew a lead off walk to plate a run and Rob Acierno then stroked a two-run single up the middle as York's lead grew to 15-4.

• The Saints closed the gap with a four run seventh inning. After a quiet eighth inning, York got an RBI single from Barry to give York a 15-8 lead. The Saints made it interesting in the ninth with four runs but their deficit would prove to be too large as York held on for the sweep.

The Spartans are now 6-4 all-time against the Saints as CAC opponents … that conference affiliation will change next year as the Saints are leaving the CAC for a new mid-Atlantic based conference … York's five game win streak is their longest streak of the season … York has scored double figures in runs in four of the five wins during the streak.
