How It Happened

• The Captains opened the scoring in the top of the first with three consecutive hits after there were two outs. Nick Baham picked up the RBI single to put the Captains up early. York answered with a trio of runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead. Christian Bilan started it off for the Spartans with an RBI single through the left side. Collin Crowell added a single down the left field line for York's second run. The third run came on a Christopher Newport error as York took control early.

• York got back-to-back doubles from Seth Brosius and Bilan to push the lead to 4-1 in the third. Baham got that run right back in the top of the fourth with a solo blast to lead off the inning.

• The Spartans tacked on two more runs in the sixth as Zach Hossler had an RBI single and Brosius followed with a run scoring single of his own as York led 6-2.

• The Captains answered with three runs in the top of the seventh, cutting York's lead to 6-5. Brandon Ginch ripped a two run homer to left and Craig Johnson added a laser home run to center that just eluded a great attempt at the wall by Spartan centerfielder Grant Oberholtzer.

• The Captains plunged the dagger with a five run top of the eighth inning as the Spartans got the first two outs of the inning. A two base Spartan error opened the door and the Captains came storming through as they followed the error with a hit batter, a three-run homer from Seth Woodard, a walk and a two-run homer from Baham as they turned the game upside down.

• Oberholtzer got one run back in the bottom of the eighth with a home run but the Captains put the game out of reach with a three spot in the top of the ninth. York closed out the scoring with a solo home run from Brosius as York dropped the opener.

How It Happened

• The Captains opened the scoring in the second as Brandon Ginch blasted a solo homer to left to lead off the inning. York tied the game in the third on a Zach Hossler fielder's choice.

• The game remained tied at one through the fifth. The sixth inning was a free-for-all as the teams combined to score nine runs. The Captains got a two-run homer from Seth Woodard as the Captains took the 3-1 lead. Nick DiNapoli drove in the third inning of the frame with an RBI single and the Captains scored the fourth run on a Spartan wild pitch.

• Not to be outdone, the Spartans scored five runs of their own as the first tally came on a Jack Barry RBI ground out. The next run came on a Captain wild pitch. Grant Oberholtzer then laced a double off the right field wall with the bases loaded to score all three runs, giving York a 6-5 lead.

• After a scoreless seventh, the Captains won the game with a three-run eighth. The three runs came on four hits and a Spartan error. It could have been worse as the Captains had the bases loaded with one out. Spartan left hander Jeff Noss came out of the pen to get a pair of strikeouts to lead the sacks loaded, giving York a chance.

• The Spartans got the first two runners on in the ninth inning as Bailey Doan singled and Grant Oberholtzer reached on an error as the winning run came to plate with no outs. A failed sacrifice attempt followed by a strikeout and Christian Bilan came up to the plate. He battled Captain closer Joe Burris with a 13-pitch at-bat before eventually drawing a walk. Burris would get Barry to ground out to second to end the game as York left them loaded.
