YORK, PA - York College wrestlers Jackson Drum and Eric Hutchinson have been named the Spartan Co-Athletes of the Week after dominating performances at the Ned McGinley Invitational this weekend at King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
Drum made his season debut a successful one as he won the 174-pound title. Drum, the number one seed, opened his tournament with a win by fall over Muhlenberg's Scott Horry. The fall came in just 1:13. Drum followed with a 14-0 major decision over Springfield's Nicholas Almonte to move into the semifinals. Drum got tested in the semifinals as his first period take down held up as he earned a hard-fought 2-0 win over Penn College's Dan Bergeron. Drum won his championship with a 5-1 win over Cortland's Demitreus Henry. Drum scored all five of his points in the opening period.
Hutchinson opened the day as the second seed at 157 pounds. He opened the day with a 15-0 tech fall in his opening round. He followed that with a tight 7-6 win over Cahal Donovan from Cortland State to advance to the semifinals. Hutchinson then rolled to a 12-2 major decision win over Cortland's Gianno Siliba to earn his way to the championship match. Hutchinson earned his first tournament title of the year with a 12-3 major decision win over Roger Williams' Tyler Gazaway. Hutchinson is now 7-0 for 2019-20.
