SALISBURY, MD – The York College women's cross country squad had a very strong showing at the Salisbury University Don Cathcart Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning at Winter Park Place in Salisbury, MD.
The Spartans finished third of 14 teams as they notched 81 points in the race. East Stroudsburg won the women's team title with 37 points while Nyack finished second with 45 points. Salisbury finished a distant fourth behind York with 155 points.
York was led by junior standout Jess Miller (Dauphin, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) as she roared to a third place finish with a time of 22:15.40. It is Miller's second straight top four finish and she has been York's top finisher in all four events they have competed in this year.
Sophomore Jenna Roberts (Stewartstown, Pa./Kennard-Dale). freshman Alicia Dillman (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and junior Caroline DeLany (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora) were the Spartans' next finishers, as they placed in a pack of 13th, 14th, and 15th. Roberts led the way with a time of 23:32 to place 13th. Dillman recorded a time of 23:33.70 to finish 14th while DeLany posted a time of 23:39.50. Dillman and DeLany finished right next to each other in York's last race, the Rich Achtzehn Classic two weeks ago in York.
Freshman Kasey Fogelsanger (Owings Mills, Md./Mercy) had a strong showing as she ran a season-best 23:58.10 to finish in 22nd. Freshman Kathleen Cannon (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill) recorded her best time of the year, as she placed 27th win a time of 24:18.0. Junior Emily Abel (Timonium, Md./Dulaney) rounded out York's top 30 finishers, as she placed 29th with a time of 24:23.30.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, October 5 when they travel to Bethlehem, PA to participate in the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh University. The event is slated for an 11:00 am start.
