Parshall Snags Fourth, Spartans Third at Snowy CAC Championships
YORK, Pa. – The York College women's cross country team nabbed a third-place finish at the 2011 Capital Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Championships. On a snowy Saturday at John Rudy Park in York, the Spartans posted 58 team points and were just one point shy of second-place Mary Washington and ten away from first-place Salisbury.
"At first, I must admit I was a little disappointed," Spartan head coach Erick Camodeca said. "However, after I looked at the results and realized how close we were to second and even winning, it was not a bad day overall."
The Spartans posted a record setting four runners on the all-conference list, marking the first time in program history in which that many runners received All-CAC honors.
Leading the Spartan pack, senior Mandy Parshall took fourth overall, out of 89 participants, with a 26:18.21. With the finish, Parshall nabs her second-straight all-league first-team accolade. In just her first CAC Cross Country Championships, sister Misty Parshall placed ninth overall. Her 26:57.15 over the 6K course provided the rookie with second-team honors.
Sophomore Nicole Danielewicz and junior Tuesday Wilson each captured CAC honors as they collected 12th and 13th, respectively. Danielewicz put together a quality race and finished with a 27:05.54 while Wilson came in with a strong 27:17.85.
"Nicole and Tuesday were phenomenal today," Camodeca said. "They both stepped up big time."
Rachel Berninger was the final York runner in the top-30 as she placed 27th overall with a 27:52.96.
Victoria Hall, Jess Miller, and Katie Meehan each gained quality experience through their first CAC Championship race. Hall posted a 28:07.10, Miller a 28:14.30, and Meehan a 28:23.09. Abby Peller held off a charging Nia Bentall of Mary Washington to finish 49th with a 29:47.93.
Following their third-place mark, the Spartans now return to training in preparation for the 2011 NCAA Mideast Regionals. The Green and White will have two weeks to prepare for the event hosted by DeSales University on Saturday, November 12. Start time from Center Valley, Pa. is slated for 11:00 am.
"I am excited to see what we can do in two weeks," Camodeca remarked. "Not only that, but I am excited to see what we can do next year with this team being so young."
