Parshall Takes First; Spartans Second at Goucher Classic

TOWSON, Md. – Freshman runner Misty Parshall captured first-place honors Saturday to lead the York College women's cross country team to a strong second-place finish Saturday at the 2011 Goucher College Cross Country Classic. The event serves as York's final tune-up prior to the Capital Athletic Conference Championships slated for Saturday, October 29, in York.

Fresh off of her CAC Women's Cross Country of the Week accolade, Parshall made a bid for a second week in a row, taking first overall at the Goucher meet. Parshall bested the field of 70 total runners as she put up a 25:22, six seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

"Misty had a heck of a race," Spartan head coach Erick Camodeca said. "She went out faster than expected but held on to take first."

Freshman Jess Miller put together a strong race of her own, as the rookie finished ninth overall. Miller's top-10 mark came courtesy of a 26:33.

Tuesday Wilson snagged an 11th-place time for the Green and White as she traversed the course in 26:44. Nicole Danielewicz finished just behind Wilson as she took 12th with a 26:50.

"Tuesday, Nicole, and Jess ran really well together," Camodeca said. "They pushed the pace and finished strong."

Victoria Hall and Katie Meehan each placed in the top-25 for York as Hall notched 23rd and Meehan 24th. Hall came across the line in 28:16 while Meehan completed the race in 28:21.

The Spartans will now turn their attention to the CAC Championships. The annual conference meet, slated for Saturday, October 29, is scheduled for John Rudy Park in York as race time is set for 11:00 am.
