York Begins Slate at Galen E. Piper Challenge

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The York College women's cross country team embarked on their 2011 slate on Saturday as they traveled to Shippensburg University for the Galen E. Piper Alumni / Open Cross Country Challenge. The Spartans took fifth out of seven squads with 139 points.

Freshman Misty Parshall made an early splash as she posted York's best time of the day. Parshall ran to a 32nd-place 16:23 in just her first collegiate race.

Mandy Parshall, the 2010 Capital Athletic Conference Cross Country Champion, started her senior season off with a 16:31 to take 34th overall out of 83 participants. Newcomer Jess Miller finished barely behind Parshall as she took 35th in her first college race.

Nicole Danielewicz traversed the course in 16:50 as she was the fourth York finisher, taking 45th overall, while junior Tuesday Wilson nabbed 49th with a 17:06.

Rookie Emily Abell placed 53rd overall as she posted a 17:15.

The Green and White return to action on Saturday, September 10, when they travel to Annville, Pa. for the Lebanon Valley Invitational. Start time is slated for 10:30 am.
