SALISBURY, Md. – The York College women's cross
country squad competed Saturday at the Don Cathcart Invitational
hosted by Salisbury University. The Spartans took 11th out of the
18 scoring teams, registering 256 points. Meet-winner East
Stroudsburg collected just 52 points on the day.
Racing at the site of the 2010 Capital Athletic Conference
Championships, the Spartans – as well as a majority of CAC
schools – got a first-hand look at the Winterplace Park
course.
Mandy Parshall posted York's best time of the meet as she
completed the 5,000-meter course in 23:22. Out of the 175
participants, Parshall finished 29th overall.
Melody Parshall and Corie Thompson finished second and third for
the Green and White, notching 51st- and 57th-place finishes,
respectively. Parshall traversed the course in 24:22 while Thompson
crossed the line at 24:37.
Sophomore Tuesday Wilson finished the race in 24:52, taking 64th
for the Spartans.
York's second group of finishers also put in quality
performances as they continue to build for the league championships
on November 6. Spartan newcomer Nicole Danielewicz placed 73rd with
a time of 25:00 while Laura Colantuono, who has continued to
improve throughout the season, placed 90th with a 25:40. Chelsea McCracken's 25:55 was good for 94th. Heather Schaeffer posted
a 26:14 while Amy Stickle finished with a 26:22. Abby Pellar, who
has been sidelined during the early part of the year, recorded a
strong 26:30 in her first time out this season.
"Overall, I am happy with where our women finished
today," Spartan head coach Erick Camodeca said. "But
more than that, I am extremely pleased with how our second group is
really starting to step up. Danielewicz and Colantuono in
particular ran great races today. The group's performance
today should definitely give them increased confidence."
York will look to continue to boost that confidence on Saturday,
October 9. The Spartans travel to Goucher next week for the Goucher
College Classic at 10:00 am.
